Harlem, New York!!

We live in Harlem, New York. We have schools, brownstones, the Apollo theater, the magic JOhnson theater, Harlem Hospital and the Schomburg Center for Research and Black Culture. FOr fun we play sports like Lacrosse, we go to parks, we go to museums, we go out to eat. We love alot about our neighborhood. We love the stores. We love central park which is on the edge of Harlem. We love the chinese stores and all the different types of food. When we think of ways that we could make our community better we think of

-recycling
-pick up the garbage on the streets
-push the gangs out of the neighborhood
-get better trained police men
-use less profanity

Our First Entry!!

We are class 5-107 from PS175. We are a fifth grade class. We are the seniors of our school. This year we are learning about reading and mathematics like measuring angles. We are also learning about the ancient Mayans. In science, we’re learning how to make airplanes from scratch. We are also learning how to write personal essays. We’ve been very busy this year so far.

This year we are working with Reach the World. We’re learning about the Dominican Republic. Our Traveler’s name is Brittany. Brittany likes to travel to many different places. Brittany communicates with us by writing us notes on the website. We also talk to her using Skype. She talks about what kind of food she likes such as what fruits she likes. She tells us about the different types of music she likes there. She talks about what subjects she likes in school. She told us her age but we do not remember.

We still want to know about the stores in the DR and what the transportation is like. We would like to know where Brittany comes from and what her ethnicity is? We want to know what the weather is like in the DR and whether it’s always hot? Also, what holidays do they celebrate there and do they have any rituals? Finally, we want to know if Brittany teaches kids where she is?
When we think about who we want to read this blog we would like Brittany to read it. We also want our parents and teachers to read it. We want the people at Reach the World to read it. We even want Barack Obama to read this blog.

Thank you for reading our blog.
Sincerely,
The fifth graders of class 5-107 at PS 175
